From Fine Old Recipes, Pennsylvania Dutch Cookbook.  My mother made these although I didn’t get a recipe from her. When I saw these, my childhood flashed in front of my eyes. I remember sitting in the kitchen in French Camp with my mom in her apron, standing next to the stove. She would warm the kitchen with the stove since our only heat was from the living room furnace that was too far away from the kitchen, so without the stove on, the kitchen was icy cold.Â
Saturday morning, apple fritters were always a treat. My Mom’s father and his ancestors came from Pennsylvania over to missouri and across the Oregon trail.Â
1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup milk
1 egg, well beaten
2 medium tart apples, diced
Sift dry
